Gingergold 

  • Parentage / Origin: Golden Delicious type; Virginia
  • late August - first week September
  • An early apple similar to the Golden Delicious. 

 

 McIntosh

  • Parentage / Origin: Ontario, Canada 1798
  • First week of September
  • Flesh white, tender, very juicy

 

HoneyCrisp

  • Parentage / Origin:  Macoun x HoneyGold; University of Minnesota, 1991
  • Mid-September
  • Explosive crispness, juicey, unique taste! Best eaten fresh.  Excellent keeper

 

Cortland

  • Parentage / Origin: cross between a Ben Davis and McIntosh
  • Mid-September
  • Resists browning

 

Royal Gala

  • Parentage / Origin: Cross between a Kidd's Orange and Golden Delicious
  • Mid-late September
  • Sweet, dense apple

 

 Empire

  • Parentage / Origin: Cross between the McIntosh and Red Delicious
  • mid-late September
  • Slightly tart, juicey and firm - a favorite with kids

 

 Jonagold

  • Parentage / Origin: Cross between a Golden Delicious and Jonathan
  • Late September

  

Mutsu (Crispin)

  • Parentage / Origin: Cross between the Golden Delicious and the Japanese Indo
  • Ready late September - early October

 

 Spencer

  • Parentage / Origin: McIntosh x Golden Delicious
  • Early October
  • Although this should be enjoyed as an eating apple, Spencer can be used in pies and sauce
     

 

Red Delicious

  • Parentage / Origin: sport of delicious
  • Early October
  • Low Acid.  Excellent in salads; not recommended for cooking

  

Golden Delicious

  •  Parentage / Origin: Originated in West Virginia as a chance seedling
  • Early October
  • Slices keep shape in baking, excellent for sauces

 

Ida Red

  • Parentage / Origin: Cross between a Jonathan and Wagener
  • Mid-October
  • Excellent long-term storing apple

  

Fortune

    FROOTOGO NEWS

    We are now open daily , 10am - 6pm. Apples are 2 weeks early this year! Pick-Your-Own Apples are finally here. We are picking PAULA-REDS (similar to a McIntosh) and GINGERGOLDS (similar to a Golden Delicious). HONEYCRISP is available in Ready picked. Also picking BARTLETT PEARS and STANLEY PLUMS. Coming soon: Silken and McIntosh apples. Come on out and enjoy some time at the farm. Also available are veggies,picked apples, homemade bakegoods, ice cream, apple cider, and more. The playground is open and the animals are looking forward to seeing you soon! We are still accepting resumes with applications for fall employment.
